Clemson, Alabama stay 1-2 in AP poll after big wins

Clemson and Alabama remained firmly atop the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released Sunday, with North Carolina plunging out of the top 10.No. 1 Clemson (5-0) captured 54 first-place votes after a 73-7 thrashing of Georgia Tech. No. 2 Alabama (4-0), a 41-24 winner over Georgia, grabbed eight first-place votes. With the loss, the Bulldogs (3-1) fell one spot to No. 4.North Carolina (3-1), No. 5 last week, plummeted nine spots after a 31-28 upset loss at Florida State.Moving up one spot each were undefeated Notre Dame (No. 3), plus four idle teams: Ohio State (5), Oklahoma State (6), Penn State (8) and Cincinnati (9).Texas A&M (3-1) climbed four places to No. 7 after a 28-14 win over Mississippi State. Idle Florida (2-1) retained the No. 10 ranking.
