With over thirty years in the business, Walt 'Baby' Love has made a name for himself as one of the most talented and respected broadcasters in urban radio. A three-time nominee to the Radio Hall of Fame, Walt, in partnership with Excelsior Radio Network, syndicates four very popular shows out of his Los Angeles studios. Walt's "The Countdown with Walt 'Baby' Love", celebrating its twentieth anniversary, is the longest running, syndicated R&B show in radio. The Countdown recently won its sixth Billboard Magazine award for best R&B syndicated radio show. This countdown of contemporary urban music is currently heard on over 150 stations in the U.S., as well as 75 countries throughout the world. The newest addition to our lineup of weekly syndicated programs, "The Urban AC Countdown Show" debuted in January, 2001. It currently airs on thirty Urban AC stations featuring the top twenty Urban AC songs of the week with a look back at yesterday's biggest hits. "Gospel Traxx", which Walt writes, produces and hosts, highlights the best in traditional and contemporary gospel music and is heard on over 200 radio stations nationwide as well as fifteen countries internationally. Due to overwhelming demand, "Gospel Traxx" is now available in a three hour version as well as the traditional two hour show. In addition, Walt hosts a daily, sixty second feature, "African Americans Making History Today". The feature spotlights African Americans who are making a difference in their communities, the U.S. and the world. It currently airs on over 100 radio stations. Walt began his broadcasting career while serving in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Erie, PA, he began moonlighting at WWGO. After his discharge from the army, he moved to Houston to take an on air position at KYOK. Walt has broken the color barrier several times during his career. Two years after coming to KYOK, he was hired at Top 40 powerhouse KILT, becoming the first African American to work for the Lin Broadcasting chain of stations in the south. Two years later, Walt became the first African American to work for RKO Radio. During his tenure with RKO, he worked at CKLW in Detroit and at WOR-FM in New York. Walt also served as Operations Manager at WVON-AM and WGCI-FM, Chicago. He has also held broadcast positions at WNBC and WBLS in New York, as well as KHJ, KMPC and KFI in Los Angeles. In addition, for twenty one years Walt was Urban Editor at Radio & Records. Walt has received the Hal Jackson Award for Excellence, Impact's Salute to Excellence African American Man of the Year Award as well as honors from Grambling University for contributions to excellence in communications. In 1997 he received the UCLA Gospel Trailblazer Award. In 2000 he was named for the second consecutive year by Radio Ink Magazine as one of the twenty five most influential African Americans in radio. In 2001 he was named radio personality of the year by the Black Broadcasters Alliance. Walt grew up outside of Pittsburgh on his great grandparents' turkey farm. He attended Gannon University, majoring in sociology. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after serving in northeast Thailand as a paratrooper in the famed 82nd Airborne Division. Walt currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Sonya and their ten year old son, Stephan.
